The Fortification of Hilla, (495-558 A.H./1101-1163 A.D.) Historical Study
The city of Hilla was characterized by its important geographic location. At the time the river represented the line of defense to its left, its fortification was the line of defense on its right side, as well as its proximity to the ancient city of Babylon.
The city of Hilla has received many studies, but it overlooked the urban aspect, and perhaps in the forefront of this (Sur Hilla), which was established with the expansion and increase and took control of the emirate more during the rule of her emir Bin Mansour bin Mazid al-Asadi 479 -501 A.H, to confront the Abbasid Caliphate and Saljuki domination To protect the city from the surrounding Bedouin tribes, and to secure the pilgrimage route that passes through the Holy Land.
The study attempted to show the importance of the Surat al-Hilla, while the Arabic travel books did not mention any passing signs, so it was necessary to rely on foreign travel books that covered a large area of study.
