الحمد لله الذي لا إله إلَّا هو الملك الحقُّ المبين، الذي بذكره يتشرَّف الذَّاكرون، وبشكره يفوز الشاكرون، وبطاعته ينجو المطيعون، وصلَّى الله على محمَّد سيِّد الأنبياء والمرسَلين وعلى آله الطيِّبين الطاهرين.
إنَّ هذه الرسالة هي ما دوَّنه الشيَّخِ عليِّ ابنِ الشيَّخِ مانِعِ المَحَاوِيلِيّ الخَاقِانيّ المتوفَّى سنة 1348هـ/1929م، من أحداث تاريخيَّة مرَّت على المدينة المقدَّسة، أَلَا وهي النجف الأشرف، وهذه الأحداث كانت مقتصرة على ما يُعانيه سكنة هذه البقعة من صعوبات بالحصول على الماء، إضافة إلى ذلك كانت هنالك إشارات جميلة لكثير من الشخصيات ذات الدور الفاعل في إعادة إعمار العتبة العلويَّة المقدَّسة، ووضع حجر الأساس لتقديم الخدمات لزائري قبر ابن عمِّ رسول الله صلوات الله وسلامه عليهما.
إضافةً لذلك، فقد بيَّنت هذه الرسالة الدور الذي شغله فضيلة الشيخ عليّ في هذه المحنة، ألَا وهو اتِّخاذه من القلم أداةً يُدوِّن بها ما دار من أحداث قرأها ورآها، وسمعها ووعاها؛ فهو أحد روَّاد الإبداع في مجال تدوين ما دار من أحداث تاريخيَّة بقيت محفوظة على مرِّ الدهور في جبين مدينة عجَّت بالمحَن، وكانت محطَّ رحال النِّقم، وكيفيَّة زوالها ببركة حاميها والإمام المدفون فيها.
ومن الجدير بالذِّكر أنَّ هذه الأحداث كانت قد اُختيرت من مصدَرَين رئيسَين، الأوَّل منهما: هو نقل الأحداث من داخل المصادر التاريخيَّة المتخصِّصة بتاريخ هذه المدينة، وقد طغا على هذا النقل هو المشاهدة العينيَّة من المصنِّف لـما شيِّد من آثار عمرانيَّة، أو ما بقي بعد هدم هذه الآثار.
أمَّا المصدر الثاني: هو ما عاصره المصنِّف من أحداث، وكان نقله يعتمد إمَّا عن طريق المعاصرة أو عن طريق النقل بالسماع، أو عن طريق مشاهدة ما بقي من آثار، وإنَّ ما أعان المؤلِّف في هذا المضمار هو معاصرتهُ لكثير من هذه الأحداث الشائكة.
فمن خلال ما مرَّ ذِكره، يمكن تصنيف هذه الرسالة من الرسائل التاريخيَّة المتخصَّصة بأحوال مدينة النجف الأشرف.

Praise be to Allah, besides whom there is no god, the King, the Truth, the Manifest, by whom those who remember are honored, and by His praise the thankful win, and by His obedience the obedient are saved. May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon Muhammad, the master of the prophets, and upon his pious and pure family.
This letter is what Sheikh Ali Ibn Al-Sheikh Mani’ Al-Mahawili Al-Khaqani, may Allah have mercy on him, who died in the year: 1348 AH/1929 AD, wrote about historical events that passed through the holy city of Najaf. In addition, there were beautiful signs of many personalities who played an active role in the reconstruction of the Imam Ali Holy Shrine, and laying the foundation stone for providing services to visitors to the tomb of the cousin of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon them both.
In addition to that, this letter clarified the role played by His Eminence Sheikh Ali, may God have mercy on him, in this ordeal, which is that he was armed with a pen and wrote down the events that took place that he read, saw, heard and understood; He is one of the pioneers of innovation in the field of codification of historical events that have been preserved throughout the ages in the forehead of a city wracked with adversity, and it was the focus of the journey of resentment, and how it vanished with the blessing of its protector and the imam buried in it. It is worth noting that these events were drawn from two main sources, the first of which is the transmission of events from within the historical sources specialized in the history of this city, and this transmission was dominated by the kind observation by the compiler of what was built of urban monuments or what remained after the demolition of these monuments.
As for the second source: it is the events that the author lived through, and his writing depended either through contemporary or through audio transmission, or by watching what remains of traces, What helped the author, may God have mercy on him, in this regard was his contemporary and his closeness to many of these thorny events.
Through what has been mentioned, this message can be classified as one of the historical messages specialized in the conditions of the city of Najaf.
